PHS Speech and Debate Students Selected for 2022 Congressional Debate

Congratulations to Coen Shepherd and Luis Martinez on this prestigious honor!

“The thirty debate topics for Congressional Debate that will be debated at EVERY invitational debate tournament in Texas were announced this morning, December 2nd. I am proud to announce that PHS has two of the thirty items, sharing that honor with only 7 other schools in the state across all UIL conferences and all private schools. To my knowledge, this has never happened in the history of PHS. I am over the moon proud of the bill's authors Coen Shephard, Sophomore (A Bill to Link Federal Taxes to Net Worth to Simplify the US Tax Code) and Luis Martinez, Senior(A Bill to Limit the Number of Hours Teens are Permitted to Work).

Each school may submit 3 items for consideration generally, this draws between 150-200 submissions that are then ranked by committee members across the state. Only the top two items from each school are considered for the final docket.”
