How Can I Get Involved?

Article in the Pampa News by Superintendent Tanya Larkin

Often I am asked by parents, community members, and even business owners how they can get involved in our Pampa Schools and be a part of solutions to the problems facing our students, teachers, and families. I would like to share just a few events that are coming up that provide everyone with some options to get involved. First, this week we have our official VIPS kick-off breakfast. The VIPS is our Volunteers in Pampa Schools program. Parents, community members, businesses, churches, etc. have many different options in how they serve, where they serve, and even how often they serve. If you are interested in learning more about this program please contact Jana Williamson at 669-4700.

Next week, on September 19th, at 5:30 at the PISD Admin Building at 1233 Hobart Street, we will have our first District Leadership Team meeting. This is a group of parents, businesses, community members, and school staff that work together throughout the school year to develop and make recommendations to the school board in the areas of school improvement, school calendar, community and family engagement, as well as many other topics. If you are interested in serving on this team, please contact Karen Linder at 669-4700.

Following that, on September 19th, at 7:30 in the PHS Commons, we are having a Parent Bullying Class. This session will provide parents and concerned citizens with information on all of the programs, strategies, and procedures for bullying awareness and prevention on all of the PISD campuses. Also, we will explain our Rachel’s Challenge program that we launched last spring and how we have expanded that program this school year. If you would like to learn more about this program, please contact Suzanne Pingel at 669-4800.

On October 10th, at 5:30 at the PHS Commons, we will be having our first Career and Technical Education Advisory Board meeting. This is an opportunity for businesses in Pampa to talk at the table with our CTE educators and administrators about the programs that we offer in our schools to provide career and workforce learning opportunities to the students. We will discuss a local needs assessment, the need for soft-skills acquisition, and seek your input and feedback on programs, certifications, and licensing opportunities for our students as well. If you are interested in learning more about this program, please contact David Hall at 669-4800.

If you are interested or want to know more about these programs, you can visit our website at www.pampaisd.net or feel free to call us at 669-4700. We appreciate the Pampa Community and the overwhelming support we feel from so many of you as we work together to ensure that our students become life-long learners who are compassionate, competent, confident, and future-ready!
