What Time Is It?

August is my favorite time of year because we get to start school! From the sounds of the fall sports and marching band beginning practices to the excitement of getting new school supplies and meeting the new teachers, the beginning of school is an inspirational and exciting time for so many of us.

In the Pampa ISD, we have been working hard all summer to ensure that our students and staff have a meaningful and successful school year. Our first-time teachers began this week with the First Year Teacher Academy working on setting up their classrooms, learning the curriculum, designing meaningful learning plans, and developing their classroom management plans. Next week, on August 9th, we welcome all new employees to the Pampa ISD at our annual welcome breakfast. This year is going to be a very special time because our local businesses, organizations, and even several churches from our community have joined us this year to extend a warm greeting to our new staff and their families. We believe that these wonderful people are not only joining the Pampa ISD, but they are joining our community and we want to let them know that we value them and genuinely welcome them to Pampa.

On August 15th, all teachers and staff will attend an exciting Convocation at the PHS Commons where we will engage in our mission, vision, and goals. We also have the unique opportunity to hear from Pat Hickman, President of Happy State Bank, who will inspire us with his story of the importance of Non-Negotiables in any organization. The Pampa ISD Non-Negotiables have been developed in the past few months with the input of teachers, administrators, and even community and parent surveys. In Pampa ISD, our non-negotiables are clear and compelling: We will WORK HARD and ENGAGE OTHERS. We will DO THE RIGHT THING and will be KIND. We will ACT WITH COURAGE and will ENJOY THE JOURNEY.

The most exciting day in August will be Wednesday, the 24th because this is the day the students arrive on campus. This is such a great day for our teachers, principals, and especially the kids. We are excited about the excellent things going on in our district and are ready and equipped to begin the work with the students. As always, if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to check out our Facebook page, click on our website, or just give us a call.
