From the Classroom to the Capitol PHS Crime Stoppers Earn Recognition at State Conference

By Jana Williamson, Pampa ISD Director of Communications

At Pampa High School, students are stepping up to make a difference. The PHS Student Crime Stoppers program, now in its third year, is empowering young leaders to take an active role in keeping their school and community safe. This year, two of those leaders—Nicky Price, President of PHS Crime Stoppers, and Brayden Bowley, Treasurer—had the incredible opportunity to attend the Texas Crime Stoppers annual conference in Seguin, Texas. Accompanied by Pampa ISD School Resource Officer Geoff Bowley, the program’s coordinator, and school sponsor Shawn Moore, these students engaged in a transformative experience that deepened their understanding of crime prevention and their power to create change.

Learning, Leading, and Making a Difference

The conference offered eye-opening sessions on critical topics such as Joint Terrorism by the FBI, Human Trafficking with Texas DPS, Texas Game Wardens’ Animal Conservation, and Crime Scene Investigation. These sessions equipped students with knowledge and tools to bring back to their school, strengthening their ability to identify and report suspicious activity while fostering a culture of accountability and awareness.

Officer Bowley reflected on the experience, saying, “It was a great experience for our students. It really invigorated interest and enthusiasm for our Pampa High School program and the impact it has on our community.”

And the impact is undeniable. Already this year, PHS Crime Stoppers has paid out over $100 in tip rewards for reports that led to the resolution of criminal offenses or student code of conduct violations. These students are not just learning about crime prevention—they are actively shaping a safer, stronger school environment.

A Winning Moment

One of the most inspiring moments of the conference came when Pampa High School student Wyatt Johnson’s artwork was selected as the winning design for the new Texas Crime Stoppers poster. His original design, now set to hang in Governor Abbott’s office in Austin, is a testament to the creativity and dedication of PHS students. This achievement is more than just a win for Wyatt—it is a proud moment for Pampa High School, showcasing the talent and leadership that thrives within its walls.

A Call to Action

The PHS Crime Stoppers program is proof that students can be catalysts for change. By stepping up, paying attention, and speaking out, they are making their school a safer place for everyone. Their efforts would not be possible without the support of the Top of Texas Crime Stoppers, whose commitment to empowering students is making a lasting impact.

For those who want to be part of this mission, remember: You can report suspicious or criminal activity completely anonymously by calling 806-669-2222, or by utilizing the P3Tips App found in your device's app store. Your tip could not only help keep Pampa High School safe but could also be eligible for a cash reward if it leads to resolving a criminal offense or a student code of conduct violation.

As these students return from the conference, they carry with them not just new knowledge, but a renewed passion for service. Their dedication reminds us all that leadership isn’t just about standing out—it’s about standing up for what’s right. The future of Pampa High School is bright, and it’s being shaped by students who are showing up, working hard, and serving others.
