Pampa ISD COVID-19 Update #29-April 21, 2020

Good evening students and families,

We hope you are doing well during this WEEK 4 of @HomeLearning!  We understand that people are frustrated and saddened that we will not be returning to our campuses and classrooms this school year.  We miss our students and are very sad as well.  In fact, many of us in our community are mourning the loss of our time together and mourning the loss of the memories we might have created together through events, competitions, and celebrations.  However, we know that our students, staff, parents, and community are strong, resilient, and supportive of each other during difficult and challenging times.  We have received countless emails, texts, posts, cards, letters, and phone calls from hundreds of people over the past several weeks with questions and concerns of course---but also messages of gratitude, thankfulness, and appreciation as well.  We have seen how YOU, the students, parents, and the community have created new #moments and memories by inviting us into your lives and into your homes.

Ironically, although we have been separated for weeks, in many ways, we are closer than ever!  We are closer because we have a common experience that has created a bond that we will never forget.  We are so thankful to the parents and teachers who have collaborated to ensure that the students and children are learning.  We are so thankful for the staff who have prepared meals, driven busses, cleaned buildings, moved inventory, and prepared devices so our students could have everything they need in order to be successful.  We are thankful for the leaders in our schools who have worked around the clock gathering, developing, and sharing guidance and information so we have the resources and equipment readily available to meet the ever-changing needs of our students and families.  Yes, Pampa is closer than ever before and I am so honored to live and work in this amazing community!

Below are a few updates and reminders of interest.  Let us know if you have any questions.

Gov. Abbott Executive Order and TimeLine

Gov. Abbott held another press conference today but did not address anything specifically about schools.  However, he did discuss the timeline for upcoming changes.  As you know, the current conditions and restrictions remain in effect in Texas until April 30th.  Today, Gov. Abbott noted that he would be issuing a NEW Executive Order on April 27th that would outline changes involved in “Opening Texas”.  This order will likely address small businesses and factors with the economy and the movement of Texans within communities and the state.  We do not anticipate any new changes for school districts this school year since he already closed our campuses for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.   Remember, our campuses are closed, but we are still “having school” through the @HomeLearning site

Lip Sync Winners

We had some wonderful entries for the Lip Sync competition.  However, we received NUMEROUS requests to extend the deadline.  So, the new deadline for entries is this Friday at 4pm!  Come on---what are you waiting for?  Get up and create a #moment your family or your team members will never forget!

Ready 4K Resource for Pk-4th grade parents

It has been inspirational to see all of the free resources provided to schools, students, and parents during this difficult time.  We have a new resource that we would like to share with our parents of students in grades PK through 4th grade.  If we have your updated phone number in our system, you will receive a link to the information.  If you choose not to receive this information, just reply with STOP.

Counselor Videos Available to help with Behaviors, Growth Mindset, Anxiety, to help families

Our amazing counselors have prepared videos to help parents and students with a variety of issues and concerns.  They will be putting up new videos every week!  You can find them on our website or you can click HERE to view the videos from our YouTube channel.

End of Year News on Events, Ceremonies, and Graduation, etc.

We are working with teams of teachers, parents, and staff to design memorable #moments for our students and their families as we end the school year.  Please be on the lookout for surveys, links to information, etc. from your campuses through social media, classroom dojo, and google classroom.  We are still receiving guidelines and parameters from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on the do’s and don’ts for closing out the school year.  We know you are eager to find out what the plans are and we want you to know that we are working very hard on this.  We want the plans to reflect how much we care and want these events—regardless of how they unfold- to be memorable and show our appreciation and pride for our Pampa students!  Stay tuned….

As always, we want you to know that we are here for you!  If you have questions or need assistance, please email us at pampaisdinfo@pampaisd.net or give us a call at 669-4700.   Stay strong Pampa!
