Pampa ISD COVID-19 Update #27-April 17, 2020

Good afternoon students and families,

Thank you for your feedback on the surveys this week.  The feedback you provided will be extremely helpful as we continue to improve our services.

We did hear from Governor Abbott today about schools.  He noted in his press conference “it is unsafe to open schools now and for the foreseeable future.”  He provided several details with numerous executive orders on a variety of topics including a task force to plan for phasing in the “opening of Texas”.

Our buildings and campuses are closed, but we are still “having school” through our @HomeLearning site following our original school calendar.  We are expecting more guidance from the Texas Education Agency Commissioner of Education early next week that we will share with our stakeholders.  In the meantime, here are the things that we are working on:

  • Leadership teams and committees with teachers and parents are developing plans for ways in which to honor and celebrate our students and staff who should be having “milestone” events this year.Although we cannot hold traditional events, we already have some fun and innovative ideas for non-traditional celebrations. These include Kinder, 5th grade, 8th grade promotions and of course, Celebrating the Class of 2020.Additional events that we will discuss planning non-traditional celebrations for include the Honor’s Banquet, Teacher of the Year banquet, and how best to celebrate our top 10% honor graduates and even our First Year Teachers.
  • Leadership teams are also developing plans for students to return property that belongs to the school district and for students and staff to access their belongings from the campuses.
  • We are feverishly working on many details and doing our very best to consider all ideas.

This is very sad news for all of us; however, we also understand that this decision although difficult to make, is in the best interest of the long-term health and wellness of everyone.

We will be sharing more details in the coming days.  Thank you all again for your continued support and patience.

As always, we want you to know that we are here for you!  If you have questions or need assistance, please email us at pampaisdinfo@pampaisd.net or give us a call at 669-4700.
