Pampa ISD COVID Update #20-April 5, 2020

Happy Sunday Pampa Students and Families,

I hope this message finds you after a wonderful weekend with your family.  As for me, our family took some time to unplug from technology and just play games, finish some projects, and even clean out the garage.  Whatever you and your family did, I hope it brought you joy and peace.

This week we launch Week 2 of our PISD@HomeLearning Portal.  Our teachers and instructional leaders have been working hard to set up another one-page document to guide the learning and activities for the week of April 6-10.  This week’s guidance will be posted later tonight after 6:00 pm at PISD@HomeLearning Portal.

As you know, the first week of distance learning was focused on making connections, removing barriers, and ensuring that all students had all of the tools necessary for them to continue learning at home.  During this past week, we did not hold students academically accountable for their performance because we were primarily interested in them being engaged in the new learning environment and just connecting with their teachers.

COMMUNICATION AND PERFORMANCE FEEDBACK.  Now that we are getting many of the kinks worked out, we will continue to support and reinforce prior learning but will also begin the transition to activities and lessons that will challenge the students to extend their learning even further.  Later this week, the teachers will also be explaining the expectations for the students and how they will receive performance feedback along this new journey.  Be looking for more information on this in the days to come.

As you know, we have a few confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our community/county.  This news, although not surprising, brings more concern to us all at a more personal level.  We urge everyone to continue to wash their hands, avoid touching their face, and keep practicing social distancing by staying home whenever possible.

During this time, we want to continue to serve our students and families so we will continue with our meal distribution locations and technology services.  In an effort to keep our employees safe, we have changed the frequency and duration of our services to limit the risk of exposure for everyone involved.  All of our new distribution times have been updated on our Student Distribution signs around town and on our website at www.pampaisd.net

MEALS will be distributed ONCE a day from 10:30-12:30 each day- Monday through Friday.  The students will receive both breakfast and lunch at this time.

TECHNOLOGY services will be open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the times listed below.  If you need a device or just need services, please email support@pampaisd.net.  Please stay in your car and pull up on the West side of the PISD Administration building at 1233 N Hobart, street.

Mondays 9:00-10:00am

Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm

Fridays 12:00-1:00pm

STAY CONNECTED WITH US WHILE WE ARE APART.  We had such a wonderful response to the Spirit Week challenges that we have come up with a new set of challenges for Week 2 of @HomeLearning.  This week’s theme is SHOW AND TELL.  Be watching our social media outlets for more on this tomorrow!  I can’t wait to see all of the great “show and tell” stories this week!

The Governor is scheduled to hold a press conference tomorrow at 2:00pm.  If he offers any new updates on the status of school closures, we will be sure to bring you the details in the daily update at 6:00pm on www.pampaisd.net
