PISD Health Update #9- Monday, March 23, 2020

Good Evening Pampa Families,

Today was an incredible day to witness!  Our teachers made over 2400 phone calls by the time we published this communication and more were coming in by the minute.  I want to take a moment to celebrate our staff---They are working extremely hard to connect, to plan to learning, and to show our students how much they miss them.  Making the phone calls today was not just to gather needed information—it also enabled us to make the much-needed connections with YOU!

Below are just a few updates and reminders for this week:

1. IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE A PHONE CALL TODAY FROM YOUR CHILD(REN)’S TEACHER----

please email us at pampaisdinfo@pampaisd.net  Send us your child(ren)’s name, grade, teacher, and campus along with an updated telephone number and or email address.  We need to connect with you as soon as possible to ensure that your student continues learning and receives the services and materials needed to be successful.  If you cannot email us, please call us at 806-669-4700 between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.

2. Facilities are Closed

Please remember that due to the Governor’s Executive Orders, our school facilities are closed to the public and only essential personnel are allowed on the campuses.  This includes our athletic facilities.  We have secured these locations and ask that you not enter them until further notice.  This makes us terribly sad, but we are following the guidance and recommendations from our legal authorities.  As soon as we are able, we will gladly open our facilities back up to our students and the community.  Like you, we will wait patiently for that day to come. It will come. and if we all do our part---maybe that day will come sooner than later. Thank you for your patience on this matter.

3. Food and Devices

We are putting the final touches on our food and device distribution plans as well.  We will publish all of the details, locations, times, and information about the distribution sites by 6:00 pm on Wednesday evening on our website and social media outlets.  At the time of this communication, we were planning for more than 3000 meals and over 2300 devices to be distributed this week!  I am excited about our plan and am proud of our staff for their efforts on this.  We do ask that you be patient and show grace during this time.  Distribution of this magnitude has never been done before in our school community,---we will get you what you need---but there will be some bumps along the way.  Thank you for supporting us as we all get through this together.

4. Instructional Planning

Our staff continues to work on planning our Home Learning platform with no tech, low tech, and high tech learning activities.  We will begin sharing more about this soon.  If you need ideas now, we have shared several open access and free resources through social media and on our website.  Despite this uncertain and somewhat frightening time, we are excited about the out-of-the-box ideas our staff are developing to support our students and our parent-teachers at home.

I encourage you to visit our website for updates and important information. We will continue to post daily updates Monday through Friday at 6:00 p.m. If you have questions that we have not answered, please send them to pampaisdinfo@pampaisd.net

As I close, I am in awe of the spirit in our community.  I have seen social media posts of neighbors waving from their porches, families taking walks, siblings playing old-fashioned board games, and our churches innovating ways to bring their message to their congregations.  It has been said many times, but I am compelled to repeat it.  In this uncertain time---I know for certain that Pampa will be stronger than ever on the other side of this journey.  We pray for your health and blessings for all!

Dr. Tanya Larkin, Superintendent
