PISD Health Update #6- Thursday, March 19, 2020

Good evening Pampa ISD students, staff, families, and community.  I hope this message finds you still enjoying your family and that everyone is healthy in your home.  So much has happened since our last update!

Below are important changes, updates, and information.  Please read this information carefully.

Governor’s Executive Order

Gov. Greg Abbott declared an Executive Order today, Thursday, March 19th shutting down many operations in Texas, including schools until April 3, 2020.  That means that all Pampa ISD students will not return to the campuses any sooner than April 3rd.  However, that does not mean that our students won’t be learning.  We will work with our families to provide services beginning Thursday, March 26th.  Please see below for our tentative plan to begin services including food, devices, and distance learning.

Governor Abbott will be holding a televised town hall with other state officials tonight at 7 p.m. CT to discuss the state's response to COVID-19.

University Interscholastic League UIL- Update

The UIL issued a press release today, Thursday, March 19th suspending ALL UIL events, practices, and rehearsals until May 4th.  This means that we will have no activity for ALL of our UIL events and facilities.  Read the Full Press Release Here.

Administration and Leadership Teams Working and Planning

Our Administrative and Instructional Leadership Team has been working non-stop to develop plans and preparations so that we can serve our students and families.  The Governor’s Executive Order extends our initial timeline to at least April 3rd, 2020.  Our plan for the work (unless things change J) are as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (March 23-25, 2020)

These will be “work-days” for all staff.

  • Thursday/Friday (March 26-27)

Our goal is to begin providing services to our students by Thursday, March 26th.  This will include food, devices, and other resources needed. Expect more details on this soon.

  • Monday (March 30)

This will be the first official day of distance learning for all students, PK-12.

As you know, things are changing at a very rapid rate.  We will continue to keep you informed as we know new information.  Please continue accessing our website and communication posts for the most accurate and up-to-date information.  We feel comfort in knowing that our community is strong and we will get through this together.

Dr. Tanya Larkin, Superintendent
