PISD Health Update #2- Friday, March 13, 2020 7:00 p.m.

March 13, 2020   Update #2

This is an update on the current COVID-19 Coronavirus from the Pampa ISD.

First, it is important to note that there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in our area at this time. However, in an abundance of caution, we are working with numerous organizations to ensure that our protocols are in place should a local crisis occur.

IMPORTANT!! WE ARE CURRENTLY PLANNING TO RETURN TO SCHOOL AS SCHEDULED ON MARCH 23RD AFTER SPRING BREAK!!!

There have been rumors and misinformation flying around on social media.  Please refer to the Pampa ISD communication outlets for accurate and timely information for all campuses in the Pampa ISD.

Pampa ISD will continue to work with the City of Pampa and Gray County officials, the Office of Emergency Management for the City of Pampa and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to monitor the situation across our area and state and review steps to help prevent exposure to our community. There is a statewide phone conference each afternoon to hear the latest information and guidance in addition to the ongoing communication we receive from the local, state, and national level.

UPDATES FOR MARCH 13, 2020 AS OF 5:00 PM

  • Technology Survey- The Pampa ISD conducted a quick survey today with our students about access to devices and the internet in their homes. This is just to collect data for planning purposes. Our plans right now are to return to school as usual on March 23, 2020.
  • UIL- The University Interscholastic League issued a statement canceling ALL UIL sanctioned competitions from March 16-29th.They will assess the situation after that time and will provide initial guidance. So, what does this mean for Pampa ISD? We are on Spring Break so most of our students are on vacation. However, several of our students who are in the season had events scheduled. Those have been canceled. However, for now, our coaches may conduct practices and rehearsals locally. Please communicate with your child’s coach for details on dates/locations/times of any pending practices.
  • As of now, we plan to return to school on March 23, 2020, as scheduled!

  • Our Leadership Team and members of our Emergency Crisis team met today to ensure we have procedures and protocols in place should the need arise to extend Spring Break or if we close schools longer than anticipated. This is JUST A PRECAUTION AND IS CONSIDERED RESPONSIBLE PLANNING. Please know that at the time of this update, we are planning to return to school on March 23, 2020, as scheduled.

We will begin posting daily updates to our social media outlets by 6:00 pm every day beginning Monday, March 16.  If new time-sensitive information becomes available, we will push that information out through our social media outlets as well.  I encourage you to visit the Pampa ISD website and follow us on Facebook and Twitter where you will find the latest information.

Just as a reminder:

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following steps to reduce the chance of spreading the COVID-19 virus:

  • Frequent and proper handwashing (soap and water for 20 seconds) and hand sanitizer in between
  • Proper cough and sneeze etiquette (cough into the upper sleeve or use tissue and dispose of it)
  • Keep hands away from eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Stay home if you are sick

This is a fluid situation and information is changing quickly.  The Pampa ISD will do our very best to keep you informed.  For updated Pampa ISD communication regarding COVID-19, please visit the Pampa ISD website and follow us on Facebook and Twitter where you will find the latest information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tanya Larkin
