Is Summer Thrive required for any students?

Elementary

House Bill 4545 became law in June 2021 to help students in academic areas where they need it most. House Bill 4545 also removed the consequence of grade retention for students who did not achieve “Approaches Grade Level, Meets Grade Level, or Masters Grade Level” on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) or STAAR End-of-Course (EOC) exams and instead allowed for extra tutoring and support. Now that the law no longer requires students to be held back based on their assessment scores.

All students who do not achieve “Approaches Grade Level” or higher on their STAAR assessments will receive a minimum of 30 hours of supplemental instruction. In Pampa ISD, we are providing supplemental instruction during summer school, which in Pampa ISD we refer to as Summer Thrive.

Additionally, students in 3rd and 5th  grade who did not achieve “Approaches Grade Level” or higher in math or reading will have customized educational plans to support their success in the following year.

If you have questions regarding supplemental instruction for your child, please contact the principal at the campus where your child attends.
